Water Gourd Steam Soup
A colleague gave us one piece of gourd (found in the internet that it is known as water gourd or dried gourd or long gourd, chinese called it wu lou) which I was not sure what to do with it... and since he proposed that I make steam soup with it, I tried it out today....
Cut the top away, scooped the content out and add in part of the content back (cut to cube), 2 pieces of pork rib, 2 pieces of carrot cube, one dried scallop, 1 sweet date and a handful of wolfberry. No salt is added...
Steam double boil style for 1hr at low fire... yummmy.

Soup Noodle with Stuffed Bitter Gourd
The start of my lonely days... so, the amount is just for me alone....
Bought a piece of bitter gourd and instead of just frying it like that, I googled for some innovative way of cooking it. The normal recipe called for stuff fish or prawn paste, but since I dont have any supply of any, I used minced pork instead.
Ingredients:
- Half a bitter gourd, cut sideway one inch thick, removed the middle part and rub with salt. Leave for 10mins.
- 2 tablespoons of minced meat, marinate with a pinch of salt, pepper, 1 teaspoon of sweet yellow bean paste, 1 teaspoon soy sauce and 2 teaspoons of corn flour.
- 1.5 cup of water
- 1 piece of dry noodle (pre cooked lightly with boiling water)
- 2 teaspoon of miso paste
- 2 slices of tamarind
- one bunch of vege (any type that you like)
- one small egg
- 1 teaspoon of fried garlic
- a little oil for frying
- Washed of the salt from the bitter gourd. Stuffed the minced meat in the bitter gourd.
- Heat up the oil and fry both side of the meat stuffed in bitter gourd.
- Add in water after both side of the meat on the bitter gourd is golden brown. Add in tamarind and leave water to boil for about 2 mins.
- Add in miso paste and stir till even. Then add in vege.
- Add the noodle and hit the egg on top of the noodle. Leave it to boil for a min (or till egg is cook).
- Done, served (remove the tamarind before serving).
Chapati with Curry Potato & Pork
Attempted chapati making today.... tasted quite good (and hubby says taste quite like the one from the shop... hehehe):
Chapati
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/4 + 1/2 tablespoon luke warm water
- pinch of salt
- 1/4 teaspoon of oil
- 1 teaspoon of flour
- Mix the first three ingredients till even and form a soft dough.
- Leave the dough to sit for at least 10mins.
- Add in the oil and knead the dough. Divide to four portions.
- Sprinkle some flour on the board. Flatten the dough on the board till very very thin.
- Heat the pan hot. Place the dough on the pan to cook. Cook each side about 40seconds (or till it turn brownish just like the one you had from the shop). Flip and cook the other side. Once done, dish out and cook the next piece.
